NFP: Read the Labour Report, Not Just the Headline
Non-Farm Payrolls estimates net jobs added in the US outside farm employment and is one of the most watched monthly releases. The headline matters, but the fuller report matters more: unemployment, average hourly earnings, participation, revisions and the surprise versus consensus can all change the interpretation. Strong job growth paired with softer wages, for example, can tell a different story than the payroll number alone. Markets may react quickly as expectations are repriced and liquidity can be uneven.
