Inflation is one of the economy's most important vital signs and one of the subtlest to measure. The CPI inflation rate—the 12-month change in the consumer-price index—gets most of the attention. The US consumer price index rose by 0.2% which was bang in line with forecasts. Prices rose by 2.5% from a year earlier, matching the slowest pace since March 2021.
